Our intent is to create educational experiences that build and expand.
Our content is how we make that happen.

As design educators from a wide variety of schools, the varied and rich venues we find for expanding our research pose numerous questions and, therefore, the need for reflective analysis.

  • What constitutes research in the context of promotion and tenure?
  • Is research exemplified by advances in teaching methodologies?
  • Is research inventive form-making?
  • Can it be interaction with a surrounding community?
  • Can it be professional studio work?
  • Can it be design as social science?

As part of an ongoing series of conferences sponsored by AIGA and Adobe, we introduce this flexible yet guided look at research and its relationship to design education. As a way to begin this discussion and to provide a structure for the conference, we will be using the Boyer Model of Education, a method of dividing content that remains open enough to allow for many points of entry.

This AIGA education conference is structured upon the four main categories of the Boyer Model of Education: Discovery, Application, Integration, and Teaching.
